AMERICAN IDOL NOTES
Voters sent Michael Johns back to Australia on last night's American Idol. Johns was considered an early frontrunner that stood out from the pack with a booming rock voice, but his last performance earned him the boot. Randy Jackson heard classic pitch problems, and while Simon Cowell thought he gave a good performance, Simon said, "I don't like it when you do an impersonation of a rock star."

Ryan Seacrest started out the evening with a report that the previous night's charity event had already raised more than 60-million dollars. The Top 8 sang the anthem "Shout to the Lord." Former Idol Jordin Sparks was joined on stage by Chris Brown for a duet of "No Air." Then it was down to narrowing the Bottom 3. Before Johns got the boot, Syesha Mercado and Carly Smithson feared for their spots at the back of the pack.

I have to admit, I was surprised. So were most people... I belong to an online pool for Idol predictions (I know, how sad). Only 1 out of 302 participants guessed Michael Johns. (By the way, for the season, I'm in 17th place out of 302... not bad).
