TEACHER OF THE MONTH
My apologies for not announcing the winner yesterday! Congratulations Mrs. Terri Baker at William Bimat Elementary, our May Teacher of the Month!
DANCING WITH THE STARS
Kristi Yamaguchi bolted out of the gate at the start of this season's Dancing With the Stars, and after last night's performances she's still the odds-on favorite to win. After a group cha-cha-cha to Lionel Ritchie's "Dancing on the Ceiling," Kristi and partner Mark Ballas brought in the first perfect 30 of the night. Cristian de la Fuente showed all the hip action that the Latin number required, but his injured arm prevented a complete performances, and earned he and partner Cheryl Burke a 26. At six-feet, six-inches Jason Taylor's lines are more suited to ballroom, but what he lacked in technical prowess he made up for in personality. Still it wasn't enough to keep he and partner Edyta Swilinska from the bottom of the first face-off.
Kristi and Mark (our pick to win!) topped the leader board with their perfect 60, ahead of Cristian and Cheryl with a 52 and Jason and Edyta at 51. Tonight the couples perform again for the judges alone, but the audiences votes from last night's performances will still count for half of the overall scores.
WHY I WILL NEVER BE AN ASTRONAUT
Have you ever wondered how astronauts get their drinking water in space? Right now it comes from a machine that turns their sweat and laundry water into clean drinking water. But that's about to change.
When the Shuttle Endeavor heads to space this fall, it'll bring the astronauts on the International Space Station a $250 MILLION machine... that will turn their PEE into drinking water.
After the astronauts pee in the toilet, the machine filters the urine, kills off the microbes, and cleans the liquid... turning it into drinking water. That might sound pretty gross (pretty gross?)... but NASA says the water will be cleaner than tap water.
OOOH... PUMPKIN!
Most of us have probably heard that stupid cliché that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. But now it turns out that the way to get a guy's attention... is actually through his nose.
A new study from the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago has found there's a connection between the smell of food and attraction. That means people get enamored by smelling certain foods.
According to the study, 9% of men are attracted by the smell of buttered popcorn.
31% of men are attracted by the smell of donuts or black licorice...
And 40% of men are attracted by the smell of pumpkin pie.
As for the ladies... 4% are attracted by the smell of chocolate.
11% are attracted by the smell of pumpkin pie or lavender...
And 13% are attracted by the smell of Good & Plenty candy!
