AMERICAN IDOL NOTES
''This stage makes you or breaks you.''

So said Simon Cowell last night. And that's why I love the Hollywood round!

The frontrunners at this point... David Archuleta, Carly Smithson, Michael Johns, David Hernandez and Asia'h Epperson.

Tonight, the Top 50 will take the elevator ride to see Randy, Paula, and Simon to decide whether or not they make it to the Top 24. Check it out on FOX 58!

ROMANTIC ... WEATHER?
According to The Weather Channel... Snowstorms topped the list of "Most Romantic Weather Conditions." More than 40% of respondents said the spring is the most romantic season, followed by fall. Winter and summer tied for least romantic.

So what kind of weather is considered unromantic? Rain and lightning ranked low with 52% finding it annoying.

But power failures aren't considered all bad... Over 70% of respondents said they would light some candles and snuggle in with their significant other when the lights went out.

WHO IS THE "QUEEN OF SOUL"?
While everyone was obsessing over the "controversies" surrounding AMY WINEHOUSE both before and after Sunday's Grammy Awards... we all totally missed the REAL controversy going down AT the Grammys.

Yesterday, ARETHA FRANKLIN issued a strongly-worded statement putting BEYONCé ON BLAST. Why? Because she considered it a CHEAP SHOT when Beyoncé introduced TINA TURNER as, quote, "the queen".

Her statement reads, quote, "I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé. However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy."

Aretha is widely referred to as the "Queen of Soul"... and, apparently, she takes that title very, very seriously. Since you probably didn't catch it, here's how Beyoncé introduced Tina, right before their big duet…

Quote, "There is one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent. Ladies and gentlemen. Stand on your feet and give it up for the queen."

For what it's worth, Aretha ended her statement by thanking the Grammys... (--because she'd won one)... and saying she'd like to send her, quote, "love to Beyoncé anyway."

DOWN ON ONE KNEE
If you thought it was old fashioned to get down on one knee to propose to your girlfriend, think again. A survey by a British wedding site (http://www.hitched.co.uk/) found that 54% of men still propose on one knee.

Some other interesting PROPOSAL facts...

--44% of men ask their girlfriend's father for permission to propose.
--57% of men CRY when she says yes.
--65% of women think more effort needed to be in the proposal.
--23% of women have received more than one proposal.
