THE MOST DANGEROUS?
CQ Press is an independent private research group, and every year, they put out a list of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. And this year, the city that came in number one on their list is . . . the city you'd guess would be number one on their list.

CQ Press named DETROIT the most dangerous city in the U.S.

The rest of the top 10: St. Louis; Flint, Michigan; Oakland; Camden, New Jersey; Birmingham, Alabama; North Charleston, South Carolina; Memphis; Richmond, California; and Cleveland, Ohio.

The report looked at 378 different cities with at least 75,000 people. Chicago, Minneapolis and other cities in Illinois and Minnesota weren't included because of incomplete data.

The cities are ranked based on six major crimes rates: Homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft. Each one of those crimes gets a different weight, based on how serious they are.

Based on that system, Mission Viejo, California, is the safest city in the country. Right after Mission Viejo are Clarkstown, New York; Brick Township, New Jersey; Amherst, New York; and Sugar Land, Texas.

Bakersfield, by the way, is the 172nd most dangerous city.
